Atlanta police officer struck by car, killed

Atlanta police officer struck by car, killed, Atlanta officer struck and killed helping at crash scene. Atlanta police say an officer was struck and killed by a car while helping a motorist on an interstate ramp.


Police Chief George Turner tells WSB Radio that a suspect was taken into custody after the wreck, which happened around midnight. It was not immediately known what charges the suspect might face.

Turner said the female officer is a 15-year veteran of the force. Police didn't immediately release the officer's name as they were still notifying her family early Wednesday morning.

Turner said she and another officer were helping a driver in the far left lane on the Interstate 75 southbound ramp to I-85 northbound.
