Kate Middleton Gets In On The Peplum Trend

Kate Middleton Gets In On The Peplum Trend

Kate Middleton Gets In On The Peplum Trend, Duchess steps out in spring's biggest must-have, Catherine gets in on a top trend by sporting an item that's gaining steam on runways. Everyone's favourite royal fashion plate, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge, stepped out in one of spring's biggest must-haves: a peplum. Kate donned a trim teal suit by L.K. Bennett, maker of those ubiquitous beige heels and some of the duchess' many coats, to visit De Montefort University in Leicester on the first day of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee tour. Her felt hat is by British milliner James Lock.

Peplums, a flounce that sits at the waist, have been gaining steam on recent runways. At the spring shows, they appeared at Nina Ricci, Stella McCartney and Céline, to name just three--and not always in the restrained retro manner seen here. Kate's classic style doesn't often merge with of-the-moment trends, but this '40s-inspired look has us hoping to see more.
