David Beckham Shows Off Some Old Magic

David Beckham Shows Off Some Old Magic

David Beckham Shows Off Some Old Magic, David Beckham shows he can still blast it into the top corner, The soccer legend leaves television announcers in awe with this impressive, long distance shot. It's been an unpleasant start to the season for the LA Galaxy. On Saturday night they looked more like reigning MLS champions after a 3-1 win over Portland that was topped off by a beautiful goal from David Beckham.

Beckham was given too much time and far too much open space in the middle of the pitch to blast his shot into the top corner from distance. And the result seemed inevitable even though he was subbed out of the last match he played at halftime. But, as everyone should know by now, David Beckham has a habit of reminding people that he's still got it whenever they start to doubt him.

Trendsetter's high-tech locker room

Trendsetter's high-tech locker room

Trendsetter's high-tech locker room, Oregon Ducks' Amazing Locker Room, The Oregon football team's quarters have a lighting system that most other schools can't touch. The Oregon Ducks have 512 uniform combinations to entice recruits, and if that wasn't enough, their locker room can beat the other 119 in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Bryan Bennett, a sophomore quarterback, takes fans inside the Ducks' locker room, and let's just say you'd be hard pressed to find a more impressive facility in the National Football League.

The football building is dedicated to legendary Oregon booster Phil Knight. Accordingly, the co-founder and chairman of Nike doesn't have your typical boring photo displayed. Knight, with a net worth of more than $14 billion, is showcased wearing a sweet pair of shades. And by sweet, we mean they look like something out of "Blade Runner" or "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure."

Beyond that, each individual player's locker includes the latest in technology, according to the official Oregon Ducks channel on YouTube. Locker stalls are metal, with vents above each player's equipment to prevent that nasty smell of body odor on shoulder pads from stinking up the facility.

In addition, the lighting system has three options: Lounge, Huddle and Game Day. The locker room has sensors that match the lighting in Autzen Stadium, so that on game day the players don't have to change their eyes to adjust to the light, they're ready to go.

Oregon's football team has a 34-6 record the past three years, including a Rose Bowl win.

The two-story facility also features lockers that are angled toward the middle of the room so that players can hear every word from coach Chip Kelly.

People who think the Titanic is just a movie

People who think the Titanic is just a movie

People who think the Titanic is just a movie, Twitter Backlash for People Who Did Not Know Titanic was Real, Tweets expressing surprise that the tragedy actually happened flabbergasts the Web. The social news-sharing site Reddit has a knack for exposing people and situations. The latest topic of discussion to generate controversy is a series of tweets from people who did not know that the sinking of the Titanic was a real historical event. 100th Anniversary Titanic Memorial Cruise Sets Sail, A cruise will travel the exact route of the Titanic, stopping at the crash site for a memorial, and a Ryan Gosling themed egg hunt springs up in New York City.

Apparently, an entire generation of people associate "Titanic" with the Hollywood blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Here is the disambiguation for you. The RMS Titanic sank April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg. The tragedy is considered one of the deadliest of peacetime maritime disasters. More than 1,500 people died.

"Titanic" the film was released December 19, 1997, and was an instant success. It became the highest-grossing film of all time for 12 years, until "Avatar" debuted in 2009.

For all the history buffs reading this, the next couple of sentences may be too painful to contemplate. A couple of the tweets from the uninformed read, "Nobody told me titanic was real? How am I just finding this out?" Another tweet read, "Guys, the Titanic was real! #mindblown."

Most people ware of the existence of the RMS Titanic are in disbelief. One such person tweeted, "The ignorance is astounding." Another person said he was "weeping for the future" at finding out that so many young people are unfamiliar with such a well-known fact.

Addis Cone Balls With UNC Squad

Addis Cone Balls With UNC Squad, College players wowed by 8-year-old, Eight-Year-Old Balls With UNC Squad, Members of North Carolina's hoops team play a game with fans, but young Addis Cone steals the show. Ask any resident of North Carolina draped in baby blue if they would like a chance to play hoops with their beloved Tar Heels, and almost all of them would put it on their bucket list. Many Carolinians got that wish yesterday as members of the Elite 8 squad played pick-up games with students and fans at the campus' Cobb Court.

While a few had moments of glory, and most were thoroughly dominated, one little man stole the show. Meet Addis Cone, eight-years-old, of Morris Grove Elementary.

Talk about rising to the occasion. Cone couldn't have been more composed or more deadly from range as he tumbled around and through the opposing defenses, which towered impossibly high over him. There seem to have been countless points when the mini Steve Nash couldn't even see around his teammates on defense. No matter, it seems nothing was fazing him Wednesday.

No word yet on whether head coach Roy Williams has made an offer, but Cone's closer to being on the Tar Heel coaching staff radar than he was last week.

Blake Griffin dunks in star defender's face

Blake Griffin dunks in star defender's face

Blake Griffin dunks in star defender's face, Blake Griffin dunked on Serge Ibaka very hard (VIDEO), Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka may lead the NBA in blocks, but he's helpless to stop the L.A. Clippers star. Back in January, Blake Griffin dunked on Oklahoma City Thunder big man Kendrick Perkins with the force of a thousand hammers. It's one of the top highlights of the NBA season, right up there with the time Rajon Rondo invited Greg Stiemsma to go bowling. (They both got turkeys!)

As great as Griffin's dunk was, though, he didn't execute it on OKC's best shot-blocker — that would be Serge Ibaka, who's also the NBA's top shot-blocker by far at 3.55 per game and the owner of two double-digit block games this year (one highlight clip here). As if to make up for that hole in his resume, Griffin dunked all over Ibaka midway through the third quarter on Wednesday night, taking the pass from Chris Paul and throwing it in over the defender. Add one more name to Griffin's list of victims. (Pau Gasol, of course, was the most grisly incident.)

Then again, embarrassing moments like this one are part of Ibaka's job description — in February, he was on the business end of a similarly brutal Josh Smith dunk. Sometimes shot-blockers look silly. Chances are, though, that they'll return the favor soon enough.

Man's New Best Friend: Duck Plays Fetch

Man's New Best Friend: Duck Plays Fetch

Man's New Best Friend: Duck Plays Fetch, This highly motivated mallard looks nothing like a dog, but it sure acts like one. We've always said that we would own a duck if only it played fetch. There's nothing more irritating than a dog that doesn't play fetch to us, so the clear obstacle in making room for a Mallard is the ability to retrieve.

But now it seems we have no excuse. This video popped up this week and is currently getting more and more popular on the web, and despite the poor quality of the visual, it's undeniable: the bird is highly motivated to return objects cast away.

Sold yet? Oh sure, training a duck probably isn't as cut and dry as this fetch session seems. Plus, you have to constantly worry about the little guy or gal running flying away. But this bird's our favorite. You might say he gets top billing in our book. (Shameless, we know.)

Brad Pitt as a 14-year-old hoopster

Brad Pitt as a 14-year-old hoopster

Brad Pitt as a 14-year-old hoopster, Brad Pitt Was A Basketball Reject, The actor didn't make his middle school basketball team, so he created a squad called the Rejects. We don't know many women who would say no to Hollywood's leading man, but sure enough, Brad Pitt faced lots of rejection in middle school. He literally wore it on his chest.

A snot-nosed 14-year-old who would grow up to become one of the world's most attractive men gave his Cherokee Middle School basketball team the nickname "Rejects." The Daily Mail reports Pitt helped organize the squad with friends after being cut from the eighth grade team in 1977.

Pitt clearly had a good sense of humor at a young age and had his father Bill coach the team. The six friends had special uniforms made with the word "Rejects" displayed prominently across the chest.

Tommy Lasorda's classic quote "play for the name on the front of your uniform and not the one on the back" wouldn't apply to this group of misfits.

Aaron Stull, a Rejects teammate and school age friend, tells the Daily Mail that the group was rewarded for its hard work. "His (Pitt's) dad coached us and we used to practice at one of the churches his family used to go to and play our games at the local Boy's Club. We even got a trophy, but sadly I can't remember what it was for."

Pitt didn't end up playing basketball at Kickapoo High School but was part of the tennis, golf, swimming and wrestling teams.

Chocolate 3D printer selling for $4,600

Chocolate 3D printer selling for $4,600

Chocolate 3D printer selling for $4,600, You can now get your own chocolate 3D printer for $4,600, A device that can churn out sweet treats is developed by scientists in Britain. Some 3D printers can print out jawbones, teeth, and guitars; others can print something far yummier — pieces of chocolate. Last year, a group of scientists from the U.K.'s University of Exeter built a printer that can make chocolatey works of art. Now, the aptly-named Choc Creator Version 1 is available for purchase, though it sure doesn't come cheap — the machine is worth $4,600.

Dr. Liang Hao, the lead scientist who worked on the project, founded the Choc Edge company to manufacture the printer for anyone who wants (and can afford) it. His team tweaked and improved the printer since it was first introduced to the masses last year. According to Dr. Hao, operating the enhanced machine is easy as pie: "You just need to melt some chocolate, fill a syringe that is stored in the printer, and get creative printing your chocolate."

If you have a strong desire to become a 3D-printing chocolatier, it may be best to get your Choc Creator now. The company is running a discount promo for the first 90 buyers, bringing the price down to just$4,000, not including the $130 shipping fee you need to add for delivery stateside. Check out the video above to see Choc Creator in action.

Jennifer Love Hewitt on digital breast reduction

Jennifer Love Hewitt on digital breast reduction

Jennifer Love Hewitt on digital breast reduction, Jennifer Love Hewitt Gets a (Digital) Breast Reduction in The Client List Ads, Jennifer Love Hewitt was surprised to see her cleavage altered on a poster for her new show. Jennifer Love Hewitt has gotten a boob reduction — digitally at least. A new version of an ad for Hewitt's racy Lifetime series The Client List shows the actress with a noticeably less ample cleavage.

In the original ad, Hewitt flaunts her breasts — which she says have served her well — in a low-cut negligee, but the altered version features her with a flatter chest in a higher-cut top.

Hewitt — who plays a struggling housewife who starts working at a massage parlor that offers sex on the show — said on Friday's The Kevin & Bean Show from KROQ that she had no idea a more modest version of the ad had been created.

"Somebody sent me a copy of the photograph, and I was like, 'Ummm, what happened?'" she said. "I'm not quite sure what's going on. But apparently somebody wanted me to have a boob reduction. ... The thing that"s even crazier is that usually when they do that stuff, I had to see the photograph before they went out anywhere, and I never saw a new version of it."

Brooke Shields's luxurious NY townhouse

Brooke Shields's luxurious NY townhouse

Brooke Shields's luxurious NY townhouse, Brooke Shields' stylish NY townhouse sums up her life, A painful childhood experience motivated the star to look for the perfect home for her family. Brooke Shields has packed more professional accomplishment into her 40-some-odd years than many people twice her age, though it helps that she started modeling as an infant, acting at nine (she was 11 when she played the title role in Louis Malle’s Pretty Baby), and that, at 14, she became the youngest cover girl in Vogue’s history.

But just as her beauty seems to deepen without dimming, Shields keeps reinventing herself, as an author, a producer, a product spokeswoman, and a mental-health advocate. Her latest venture is designing jewelry.

When you wear that many hats, you need a big place to hang them. Last July—shortly after Shields joined the Broadway cast of The Addams Family, as Morticia—she moved into a discreetly luxurious four-story Greenwich Village townhouse, where she gets to play the role closest to her heart: passionate homebody.

Shields and her husband of a decade, writer and producer Chris Henchy, have two daughters, ages five and eight, and on a recent morning she had just returned from dropping them at school (by city bus). She settled at her kitchen table with a cup of coffee and embarked on the story of a poignant homecoming.

Some years ago, Shields suffered a painful instance of dispossession. The Upper East Side townhouse she had shared with her mother, Teri, when she was growing up was sold, and its contents—a vast trove of memories—were put into storage. “I was heartbroken,” she says, “and I promised myself I would give my girls the kind of richly textured urban childhood that comes with sinking roots into a real New York neighborhood. I wanted to create for them, and us, an experience of home with a layered and resonant personal history.”

Shields, a real-estate romantic, toured brownstones all over Manhattan, she says, looking for “the one.” About four years ago she was shown a derelict (though landmarked) four-family brick house built around 1910, with a ramshackle ’60s addition. “It needed a complete gut,” she says, “but after a quick walk-through, I could see our future there. My bathtub in a niche by a window. Our daughters’ playroom on the top floor. A light-flooded, parlor-floor kitchen with a big hearth and a balcony. That kind of instant certainty is rare for me—I’m a Gemini—but for once, I was sure.”

The couple’s search for an architect, unlike their house hunting, was a one-stop, look-no-further encounter with MADE, a Brooklyn design/build firm adept at the innovative reconfiguration of historic buildings. “We loved the way they integrated tradition with modernism and warmth of character in an interior with discipline of form,” Shields says of the partners. “That clarity was especially attractive to someone like me, who grew up surrounded by clutter.”

One of the team’s first excursions was to the hangar-size warehouse in New Jersey where Shields had stowed the treasure—and detritus—from her own many moves and from her mother’s decades as an obsessive comber of flea markets. “None of our houses was ever finished,” the actress says wistfully. “We had a million dishes and sets of silver for a fantasy Thanksgiving that never happened.”

MADE’s mandate was to salvage as much of the house’s original detail and structural integrity as possible, and while this bone-setting was under way, Shields and Henchy took their girls on a vacation to Harbour Island, in the Bahamas. Several years before, the actress had met David Flint Wood, a British designer who lives on the sandy getaway with model/hotelier India Hicks (a daughter of style icon David Hicks) and their children. The two families became inseparable.

Shields told Flint Wood that she hoped the house would “sum up her life. That’s quite a big brief,” he says dryly. Much of his sourcing was done online (“I could buy a 17th-century Italian secretary from a Los Angeles dealer while staring at the Caribbean”), but there were also fishing trips to the bottomless warehouse. “We had to make a fairly ruthless triage among objects of great sentimental value to Brooke, though she was,” he observes, “admirably stoic.”

Jolts of color and asymmetry may give the decor a downtown edge, but for the most part its patrician composure evokes Mayfair or Saint-Germain. “Our shared ideal was the sort of confident old house that has been lived in for generations,” Flint Wood concludes. Shields’s dream is that it will be.
