Bubba Watson's $1.5 million home for sale
Bubba Watson's $1.5 million home for sale, PGA Masters Champ Bubba Watson Sells Lake Home, The Masters champ's lake house includes a heated saltwater pool and outdoor kitchen. Well you may not be able to swing a golf club like Gerry “Bubba” Watson Jr., but that doesn’t mean you can’t live like him. The newly-crowned PGA Masters champion, 33, isn’t just selling his marketing ability to sponsors, he’s selling his North Carolina lake house, too.
“Today the phone has been ringing off the hook,” says Tim Taylor of Tim Taylor Realty, the listing agent for Watson’s Lexington, N.C. home. “The fact that it is his house draws attention and people like to buy something with a real story.”
The waterfront abode, which first came to market in February, asks $1.45 million. It has belonged to Watson since 2009, when it was purchased for $1.1 million, according to public records. Furnishings are negotiable.
Nestled along the coast of High Rock Lake, the gated 5,000-square foot home is flanked by water on three sides. It boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two indoor kitchens spread across three levels. Sharing the two-thirds of an acre is a detached three-car garage with living quarters above it. Outside of the main house, perched over the water, is an entertaining area with a heated salt water pool and spa, a stainless steel outdoor kitchen, an outdoor fireplace and a specially formatted exterior television. In the 25-foot water below, a floating aluminum floating pier and covered boat lift allow for easy access for fishing excursions.
Taylor says the home has yet to receive a traditional offer, though a few people have offered to do property trades, something Taylor says is of no interest to his client. He suspects that both the coming selling season and Watson’s blossoming celebrity status will help deliver prospective buyers by the summer.
“Anybody that has been looking at properties like this that has disposable income is going to want to be able to say that they bought a house from Bubba Watson. It’s something a lot of people here put weight on,” asserts the real estate broker.
High Rock Lake is North Carolina’s second-biggest lake, with homes spanning every price point from single-wide trailers to multi-million dollar gated estates. Taylor says the larger estates tend to be owner-occupied, full-time residences, while smaller houses tend to be used as vacation retreats.
Taylor, whom has also sold six cars for Watson over the past several years, says the property has served as the summertime homestead for the golfer and his wife, Angie. “For the past two years they have stayed in Scottsdale where their main home is through the winter and then come here in April and stayed through October,” he notes.
The couple are looking to sell 178 Foxglove Lane in part because they recently expanded their family, adopting a one month-old son named Caleb in March. Rather than take up their usual April residence in Lexington, the Watsons have are renting in Orlando, Fla., where the new baby is required to stay by law while the adoption process is finalized.
